So after a whirl wind of a few days – I’m finally off on my flight to Saigon/HoChi Minh City. Yet another bloomin visa issue though! The company that had sorted my visa wrote the entrance and exit date as the same 😤 fingers crossed I will get it sorted soon and will be able to stay longer than my passport allows for (British passport allows you 15 days free entry in the country) so after that mini stress – time to see will!! 😍😍 been looking forward to this for nearly two and a half weeks – his lil face looked so so cute when I saw him!! Off in a taxi to the hotel which is LUSH, AMAZING, LOVELY = whatever you want to name it – that is what it was!! It has a roof top pool so we headed up there first to unwind from the car journey (seriously, no one can put into words how crazy the Vietnamese roads are!!!!) and flights, along with a couple of cocktails 😍 after lunch we were super sleepy also so had a little nap to freshen us up for having a night time explore and something to eat with a few beers at the street food market! I had squid noodles in a soy sauce which was LOVELY. Then a lil wander around the markets which are craaaaaaaazy along with the motorbikes zooming along the roads!
Friday brought a morning of exploring the city by walking to the backpackers area trying to sort out my visa issue, no luck so that then called for a beer at 9:50am 🙄😂 After lunch, we went to the War Museum which was harrowing but incredibly insightful and informative of the effects of the Vietnam/American War, which unbelievably only happened just over 40 years ago. It’s impossible to imagine that the war crimes, tragedies and the tragedies that still happen today only finished such a short time before I was born.
Friday evening we met my brothers chum Olly, who lives in Ho Chi Minh City teaching English with an agency! So so jealous and sounds like he is having a bloomin hoot over here! He took us to a few cool bars, again, down backpackers street, and had some yumma dinner of noodles before going home (drunk….) with a garlic pizza bread (for will) & a chocolate waffle (for me🙋🏼) in hand. (Don’t judge, it’s our favourite drunk food choice!!)
ONTO SATURDAY!! So Friday nights drunk antics left us feeling a bit sleepy and worse for wear when we had to wake up at 7 to go on our booked tour to the Cu Chi tunnels just outside of the city! We had a car pick us up with a guide, our pal Orange, which was super handy as we wouldn’t understand or appreciate the information we could take in unless we had a tour guide with us! So much to learn that Will and I didn’t know about the war, we have said that it’s such a shame that as children and teenagers we are denied an education on but instead to learn about Henry 8th and his many many wives – to me that seem like it doesn’t matter as much as it does to learn about new or current history which still affects the lives of a whole country! But that’s just my opinion, obviously each to their own but that is how I see it. But anyway! Very informative! We obviously did the typical tourist trying to climb into the tunnel hole under 10 seconds! Will failed miserably, I like to think that I had come close to the 10 second mark!! 😁😂 it was so interesting to learn about the hidden booby traps that the Vietnamese has set ready for any on coming enemies around them and crawling through the tunnels in 47392010 million degrees heat 😅 we only managed to go underground to then get out at the 20 metre exit point 😶😂
After we said our goodbyes to Orange, we head off to the street market again for lunch! Since it’s right on our hotel door step we thought it would be good to try another stall’s food! Then off to the roof top pool for beers & cocktails again! We decided that we would find it best to have a chilled evening since we were both absolutely poooooped (understatement!) after last nights activities and the Cu Chi tunnels! So we had a few drinks and found a really lovely roof top bar which we watched the sunset over the city and had a couple of drinks, before sensibly getting a taxi, a pizza and watching a film in bed. I think that is probably our last early night for quite a while 🙄
SUNDAY FUNDAY!! We went to the Artinus 3D museum which has 3D art painted all over the walls with photo points to take photos from! Sooooooo cool and so much fun to take oober silly tourist photos! 🙋🏼😂 the exhibition as quite a bit shorter then we had thought so we got back to our hotel, dropped a few things off and finished packing before we headed off to the market for lunch and a spot of shopping! Accidentally (🙄) got a bit drunk before our flight but we arrived super early again, hoping to sort out my visa issue – again, no luck!!!! 😤 We boarded our plane pretty late and almost missed it, as 1. We didn’t understand that Nha Trang airport isn’t called Nha Trang & 2. The gate had been moved to number 7 instead of 11 🙄😂😂😂 I swear this stuff only happens to us! But we will be arriving in Nha Trang tonight which should be interesting and a lot of fun as we’re checking into a Hostel – my first Hostel so it should be good! I’m not expecting much sleep but I’m hoping for it as I’m knackered already!!! 😱😱😱 but vietnam, you’ve been a pleasure so far!!
